With Arsene Wenger complaining last week about the difficulty of finding the right English word to express his French feelings Eric had so such problems. When asked whether he respected other people, he launched into typical explanation:
"Of course I respect everybody. Any time I had a problem, it is because people don’t respect me. I have to feel I am important. If I feel I am important I don’t answer people, even if they insult me. They can say ‘F*** your mother’ and I would say nothing, because I am an example. I respect people and they have to respect me."
Cantona also revealed that during his suspension he was censured by the FA for playing in a behind-closed-doors practice game wearing a United shirt:
"I think that was ridiculous. Where does it end? Were they saying I couldn’t play in my garden or in my living room in a United shirt? I have a problem with the judge and with these kind of people. I am too much in love with this game to handle these people."
"What are they doing during their days at home with their wife? Do they make love with their wife? Do they take pleasure when they make love? I don’t think so. They say ‘Cantona, you can’t play with a Manchester United shirt on, even in your garden’, so they are excited. It is a big moment in their life."
