John O'Shea's fitness
"John did a bit of training on Monday, but it was only a jog really. We brought him simply because we have a shortage of defenders. It's a big risk whether he plays or not."

Continuity At The Back
"It's obvious that you would like to have a constant defensive line-up for the continuity of playing with each other. That's always important. On Saturday the back four I picked had never played together. At some points that showed. But they're experienced, most of them internationals. And hopefully the occasion tomorow night will eradicate that lack of continuity. I'm very positive about that."

Ignoring Attention Around Injuries
"I think it's important at this stage that we ignore the injury situation completely. We have a massive European game on our hands. I have 20 fit players with me, and we have to prepare those players to represent us in the best possible way. My concern is not with who is left behind, but with the players I have with me."

Playing On The Biggest Stage
"The players enjoy the big occasions and usually excel themselves on the European nights. Tomorrow is one of those nights. Lyon have a fantastic domestic record and they have been in European football for many years now. It's a big night for us, as it is for Lyon. So it should be a good game."

Winning Away From Home
"Our experience over the years in Europe has always been to try and win the match away from home. To be a threat in front of goal. That doesn't matter as much in the group stages as it does in the knockout. But, scoring away from home does create an important message to the team you are playing against. If we try to change our normal way of playing, we will not be the same team. We have to attack simply because that is the way we are. There are some things you can't change, and the nature of Manchester United is to be positive. We will be on Wednesday night."

Disagreeing That Defensive Teams Win Europe
"I think the example of Porto is a presentation of some people's thoughts. Over the years, the best attacking teams have won the European Cup. I can only think to look at Real Madrid; they are a very, very defensive team who put nine players behind the ball and can't score a goal! Only Porto present a different way of winning the European Cup. Last year they were very defensive and won it, but in the main, the best attacking team wins the tournament."

Assessing Group D
"I think it's a very even group. When I first saw the draw, I thought there would be points dropped. Each team can take points off each other, they can easily beat each other. When you look at a lot of the other groups, there is a weaker team than the rest of the group. I don't think this group is like that; if you've been to Turkey, you'll know how difficult it is. Sparta Prague have great experience of playing in European football and they're league is excellent at the moment. Lyon have have a great record in French football and have done well in Europe in recent years. It's a balanced group."
