The man who said he wanted to relegate West Ham last season
because he remembered the celebrations there in 1995 when
they cost us the League Championship has come in for some
praise from Phil Neville. Speaking on the official site he
said:

‘Steve Bruce was a vital member of the team that brought the
title back for the first time in 26 years and he was the
captain of that team. That’s why Brucie always gets such a
good reception when he returns to Old Trafford. He was a
vital member of the team started the run of success this
club has had over the last 13 or 14 years and United fans
remember that.

‘When I first broke into the team he was very much like a
father figure to the younger players like myself. He was
definitely a role model. He helped us a great deal in
training, in games and even away from there. He had
tremendous experience and was always probably the first
player that us youngsters would go to for advice because he
was that kind of figure. He was well respected then and
still is to this day.

’He’s doing a great job at Birmingham and I think they’ve
the potential as a club to satisfy Steve’s ambitions as a
manager. There are obviously bigger clubs than Birmingham at
the moment but he’s doing a fantastic job there and they’ve
got the potential to get even bigger. There are probably few
better managers to help them reach that potential than Steve
Bruce.’
