The third round is scheduled to be played on the weekend of 4-5 January, Pompey are flying high in the First Division so despite six all Premiership ties it is a safe bet that the match will still be televised.
We have met three times before in the FA Cup (1907, 1934 and 1950) and each time the tie has gone to a replay. The most recent meeting came in the League Cup fifth-round, a three-three draw at Old Trafford in January 1994 was followed by a replay which United won 1-0 with a Brian McClair goal.
Pompey's last win over United came in October 1957 when they won 3-0 at Old Trafford in the old Division One.
