Towards the end of last season BackBeat told you to look out for John Richardson in the Sunday Express who had a surprising run of accurate exclusives on United, obviously betraying a good source or two within Old Trafford.

Yesterday he broke the story (which the NoTW nicked) that United were after Ajax’s Van Der Vaert and PSV’s Robben. Big deal you think.

However, RI has learnt that two Dutch players and two club officials (one Ajax, one PSV??) were staying at the Lowry on the Friday before the Fulham game and were spotted out in Deansgate’s Living Room that night. Over for negotiations perchance?

Mind you, after the following day’s horror show the players probably had second thoughts…
