PENALTY UPSET

Sean Davis said: ``I think Barthez was being rather stupid in standing by the post and waiting. Steed should have taken the penalty when the referee blew the whistle and it would have been given. Everyone was telling Steed to shoot but he waited for him to get into the goal. He was too sporting for his own good. If that was me, I'd have just stuck it in the net. Steed normally puts the penalties away but he had a good game so no one will say anything to him. It's the same old story though, we don't finish teams off but we had a few chances to nick it."

``If we're ever going to beat United, that was the time with the likes of Roy Keane, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rio Ferdinand out, but we got a point so we're still unbeaten at home this season.''

Steve Finnan added: ``Of course if was gamesmanship. We've seen it before but Steed's a confident lad and I really thought he was going to score.''

Defender Zat Knight meanwhile insisted that Laurent Blanc should have been sent off for the professional foul on Steve Marlet, which earned the 71st-minute penalty in the first place.

``Blanc was the last defender and made the tackle, so he's got to go, but the referee has given him a yellow card and we have to get on with it.''
