Paul Pogba not hiding desire to extend Man Utd contract

Manchester United are in pole position to re-sign Paul Pogba this summer, with the player's entourage keen to make him the highest-paid player in Premier League history.

Pogba's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and over the past few years he has been continually linked with a move away from the club. Real Madrid are long-term admirers, as are former side Juventus, while Paris Saint-Germain also explored the possibility of signing him before the start of the season.

However, in more recent times United's chances of tying the midfielder down on a longer-term deal have been boosted due to their high-profile recruitment. Raphael Varane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho all arrived at Old Trafford in the summer, with many tipping United as title challengers as a result.

According to L'Equipe, Pogba could be around to play with these new signings for years to come. They report that he has told family members that he sees himself continuing at United in the long term and is 'not hiding' his wish to sign an extension.

Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, and his team are keen to secure their client a great deal too. They are said to have plans to make him the highest-paid player in Premier League history.

However, United know they are in a strong bargaining position as alternative destinations for Pogba seem few and far between.

Previously, Real had been eager to sign him but they are now to be diverting all resources into recruiting Kylian Mbappe - whose contract is also set to expire at the end of this season.

Juventus are also thought to be out of the running. Elsewhere, Barcelona would not be able to afford the deal, while Bayern Munich would have to break their salary structure to sign Pogba. A Premier League move is also unfeasible, due to his long-standing relationship with United.
