A spokesperson for Paul Pogba has dismissed rumours that he has been offered £500,000 a week to renew his contract with Manchester United.
Pogba has entered the final six months of his current deal at Old Trafford and is considering all his options, including the possibility of inking an extension somewhere down the line.
Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Real Madrid are among Pogba's suitors, and with a free transfer looking increasingly likely, The Sun recently claimed that United had offered the Frenchman a whopping £500,000-a-week salary to convince him to stay.
It always felt like a ludicrous claim, and unsurprisingly, Pogba's camp have shot it down.
"To clarify media reports, Paul has not been offered a new contract in recent months," a spokesperson told the Daily Mail. "Paul is fully focused on his recovery from injury with the aim of helping the team as soon as possible."
United are prepared to keep Pogba during the January transfer window in the hope of convincing him to stay beyond the current campaign.
Because of his expiring deal, United know that Pogba would not generate a significant fee this month and the belief is that they would be better off keeping him as they strive to get back into the top four, and then handling his future when the time comes.
It's a similar story for midfielder Jesse Lingard, who hopes to leave this month but is expected to be allowed to head out for free in the summer, 12 months after rejecting the chance to cash in for the best part of £20m.
Edinson Cavani's deal is up in the summer as well. A move to Barcelona has been suggested, but interim manager Ralf Rangnick has no desire to part ways with the veteran Uruguayan at this point in the season.
