Sir Alex:
"It has been a good week. It was a difficult game. Our performance on Monday night was very good but it was a grinding out process today really. I thought their fans were fantastic. They cheered every pass and every challenge in the box.
"It was a difficult game and I think a lot of teams will come here and drop points, there's no question about that.
“The referee did his job well. I thought he had a good game, particularly as a young referee. There were not really any contentious issues when you sum them up. There was a bit of hoo-ha, but we defended well. I haven't seen the penalty - I think the linesman gave it and John himself said he was pulled back but I'd need to see it again to give my opinion.
"I'm not surprised at all by Rio. I expected that. He's been fantastic, training so hard, and I knew he would fit in very easily. It's easier for a defender to come into the fray rather than in the midfield or up front but nonetheless, he was absolutely magnificent, class today.
"There's been a general uplift in form. The return of Rio has given a lot of people confidence, particularly Mikael Silvestre. Mikael relishes playing alongside Rio because he's such an assured performer. I'm delighted with that part and, when you see the influence Rio has on others, it can only be good news for us.”
Ruud:
"It's been a good week and we want to get back to winning. We've got two in a row now and we want to keep that going for as long as possible. I think we deserved to win in the end. Our performance was good enough to get the three points.
"It could have been three or four. I had a goal disallowed, which I don't think should have been disallowed. But we were solid at the back, played some good football and created chances. We didn't score from all of those chances but I think we did enough to get the win.
"It's fantastic to see him (Rio) back. It's great to see him play so well after being out for eight months. It's just great to have him back."
The French Forest Gump lookalike Jacques Santini wasn’t happy,
"I have learned some good information. I was standing with my players and my assistant and we saw the referee in the dressing room of Manchester United smiling with the players and staff of Manchester United.
"I do not know what was said between the referee and the people of Manchester United, but the referee did not come into our dressing room. I don't understand the situation. He was not the original referee for this game, it was changed three or four days before the game and I was very surprised.
"I know that the best referee in the league was due to be here and I am not happy with the decision to appoint this referee. I am also not happy with a lot of decisions by the referee but I respect the referee because he is the man on the pitch and I am not saying this is why we lost.
"If the Premier League appointed a woman referee for a big match I would respect the decision but I don't understand why three or four days before the game the best referee in the league - Graham Poll - was taken away. I saw Mr Walton was the referee but I wish Mr Bennett had been on the pitch instead.
"There should be the best referee in England in charge of a big match. I don't know this referee, he was in division one last year."
A spokesman for United denied Walton had been in the dressing room
