Howard is confined to bench

SAF:

"Roy is a full international player who has been with us for almost three years now and done fantastically well whenever we've called on him.

"We recognise that Tim needs a break and needs time to regain his freshness.

"Tim has been unbelievable for us this season and a break won't do him any harm.

"Roy has come in and been brilliant for us. He's been very patient in waiting for his opportunity and he's proved his class when he's played for us."

Tim:

"I want to be out there playing but the manager knows best and I trust his judgement.

"It's difficult to watch from the stands if you've been playing regularly but you have to give Roy credit. He's done well and he deserves to be playing right now.

"I know what he's capable of because I train with him every day. Goalkeeper is a strange position because you have to train with your immediate competitor every day and no quarter is given.

"I definitely want to get back in the side as soon as possible but it's up to the manager to make that choice."

Roy:

"I don't see myself as the second choice keeper, I never have done.

"When I came to United from Wigan I knew I had to learn my trade for a couple of seasons but I wanted to establish myself as No.1 sooner rather than later.

"I'm the man in possession of the jersey now and it's up to me to keep it.

"I've never doubted that I'm good enough to be the first choice, but I accepted the move from the Second Division to the biggest club in the world was a huge one and that I would have to bide my time.

"When I came here, Fabien was here and doing very well, then Tim came along and was equally good.

"Now the gaffer has given me another chance and hopefully I've impressed him enough to keep my place.

"There are no hard feelings between Tim and myself. Competition for places is what you need."
