Not For Sale

The Glazers have quickly wheeled out a couple of 'Yes men' to dismiss news that United may be subject to a takeover bid. Yesterday's News of the World claimed that two groups, one from China and one from Dubai, were ready to make bids for the club.

A spokesman said: "Manchester United are not for sale.

"The Glazers are not engaged in any discussion with any prospective bidder and are not courting bidders for Manchester United."

Today's Sun also bizarrely claims that the Glazers "have won over the Old Trafford faithful by backing Sir Alex Ferguson in the transfer market since taking control."

The MEN reports another spokesman as saying:

"I can state unequivocally that United are not for sale.

"The Glazer family is 100 per cent committed to long-term investment and ownership in the club.

"Their commitment has been demonstrated by the expenditure during the transfer window. The position has not changed and nor will it.

"They have only owned the club for two years and this is still very much the beginning. It's business as usual.

"With the extra cash from the Sky TV deal, the burgeoning popularity of foreign ownership of Premiership clubs, and United's title success, means that even a billion pound bid would not now be enough to buy United."
