The Telegraph:
Sir Alex Ferguson's glorious end to the season may also include the Derby on June 2 if his horse, Broomielaw, a son of Rock of Gibraltar, impresses at Newmarket today. Chelsea's coach, Jose Mourinho, is not the only manager chasing four trophies.
Ferguson is in the running for three football prizes, the Premiership, the FA Cup and the Champions League, but for the Manchester United manager to scoop the Derby as well would be the stuff of sporting legend. Broomielaw has already been entered for Epsom.
If Ferguson wins a Classic with Broomielaw, it would give the Scot supreme satisfaction in the wake of his acrimonious dispute with John Magnier, the wealthy owner of the Coolmore Stud, over the ownership of Rock of Gibraltar. Ferguson and Magnier eventually settled out of court.
Unlike Rock of Gibraltar, who won the 2,000 Guineas over a mile at Newmarket, Broomielaw's Classic entry is the Derby, suggesting that the colt will be suited by a longer trip than his father.
Ferguson named Broomielaw after a famous stretch of Clyde waterfront. When Ferguson was growing up nearby in the Forties, children would board Clyde & Irish steamers for trips to resorts along the river.
