PA:
Norman Whiteside's wife has played down fears over the former Manchester United player's health.
Reports on Wednesday revealed the 42-year-old - who became the youngest player to feature at a World Cup finals when he starred for Northern Ireland in 1986 - had an operation in June to cure a heart problem.
The procedure carried out at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, addressed an atrial flutter, or irregular heartbeat.
But Whiteside's wife Denise insists he was never at risk and has been left bemused by suggestions of further problems since.
"He's absolutely fine and healthy and perfectly well right now.
"He recovered on the day. You go in in the morning, come out on the afternoon, it is just an electrical imbalance of the heart.
"He wasn't massively ill before and there's been no problem since. It's not a massive thing."
The procedure undergone by Whiteside, who lives in Cheshire, is the same as that carried out on former Prime Minister Tony Blair in October 2004.
