This from the Times:
'Potentially lucrative tours to the United States by Premiership clubs in the summer are under threat after ChampionsWorld, the promoter, sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on January 13. The company has taken Celtic, Manchester United and Chelsea around the US.
ChampionsWorld has accrued up to £5 million of debt after losing money on last year’s nine-team, seven-city tour, which cost more than £16 million to stage. The big teams attracted sell-out crowds, but the game between FC Porto and Galatasaray at the 76,000-seat Giants Stadium outside New York drew only 15,408 people. The company plans to stay in business and promote matches this summer in the US and Canada. Celtic , who are owed about £80,000, are the only football team listed in the company’s top 20 creditors.'
