Shearer has spoken of his desire to win trophies, and reckons he only has two years left at Newcastle to do so:
"I am very proud of reaching 600 (games played). I don't know how long I have got left in the top flight but hopefully it is a couple of years. Like the rest of the squad I want to win something. That is why I get up in the morning.
"I am not worried about the odds. I keep saying it every year that we should win something. We have to earn the right. You don't achieve it lightly. It will be a long hard road. Teams that come away with silverware deserve it.
"I don't think we're far away at all but thinking it and achieving it is totally different. However, we are all confident. I honestly believe that there are five clubs in this title race.”
