Despite being one of the only established players in Spain,
Nicky Butt is looking forward to the match, speaking to 365
he said:
“The way I see things is the more games I get, the better.
Of course you miss the big games, you miss it all. But I’m
not going to dwell on things.
“If I can come back and help the side achieve success it
will at least afford me the opportunity to forget the last
few months,”
“It’s unfortunate that injuries to other players may have
opened the door but you’re that desperate to get back
playing it tends to go over your head.
“I don’t try to dwell on injuries but when they take a while
to clear up it can be a lonely road on the way to recovery.
You ask any player and they feel the same.
“Footballers are the worse spectators in the world. The
frustration of watching your team in action increases when
things don’t go well on the pitch. You body is telling you
to get up and help, the injury otherwise.
”After the World Cup I expected to be more involved. You
can’t legislate for injuries - though they have habit of
arriving unexpected and kicking you in the teeth.
“Of course you’re then fighting a race against time to
regain your fitness and then you need as much football to
get back to the level you were before the injury came.”
