NICKY BUTT – WHY I STAYED

"It was always the case that I would only leave if it was
right for me and right for the club. I sat down for chats
with the manager over a two, three-week period and said I
wasn't happy with not playing. As long as I am playing for
United I'll be happy to stay but at the time I wasn't in the
team. We both agreed that if the right club for United and
me came in then I could move on, but that wasn't to be. I
didn't put in a transfer request as such.

"The only club that came in for me were Birmingham. They've
got a great manager in Steve Bruce but it just didn't feel
right for me."
