Mackintosh, at 34 years of age is the youngest chief executive in the Premiership and he has spun a web of half-truths to lay claim that all is well at wastelands.
Mackintosh told The People that transfer funds would be available to Kevin Keegan in the summer and that tales of impending doom are wide of the mark:
'It's nonsense to suggest we are on the edge of financial meltdown, our debt is in control and manageable. We have a main debt of £44million which is serviced like a mortgage in that the repayments are structured over a mostly 25-year or 15-year period. And if you ask many clubs in the Premiership if they would take on a 25-year mortgage of £44million for a 48,000-seat stadium like ours, they would jump at it.'
Except that when you pay off a mortgage you own your house city have got a mortgage to pay for their rent.
'The bulk of the other £18million is money loaned by John Wardle and given that he owns the club it would be strange if he calls the loans in. 'The £44million is not a debt someone can call in at a day's notice like an overdraft, and to service that we only need an average of 10,000 fans per game and we have 35,000 season-ticket holders.'
Macintosh clearly has of touch of the Kenyon's about him as he conveniently forgets that the City Council take a large slice of the revenue from those 10,000 fans. Amazing how figures can be twisted to suit the spin of a suit desperate for credibility.
