Nemanja Matic Admits He Could Leave Manchester United in January

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matić claims that he will weigh up his future at Old Trafford during the January transfer window.

The Serbia international only has six month left on his contract in the north-west and has already been linked with a move to join Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid.

Manchester United still have an option to extend Matić's contract for another season, but the 31-year-old admits he'll only stay at Old Trafford if he is still part of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-team plans.

"I don’t know what to say. I have a contract for another six months, we’ll see in January what’s going to happen," Matić told Telegraf. "Will I extend the contract or try to find something else?

"United have some option to extend my contract, but we will see if the plans of the club match my plans. I couldn’t say anything more because I don’t really know either."

Matić has spent the last two and a half years with Manchester United following a £40m move from Chelsea in 2017, where he's gone on to make 95 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Joining after José Mourinho's won three trophies in a single season at Manchester United, Matić is currently on his longest spell without any silverware in the last decade.

While the towering midfielder doesn't appear to be wanted or needed at Manchester United, Atlético Madrid are apparently eager to sign him on a cut-price deal once the transfer window reopens.

Manager Simeone wants to add some more experience to his side as Atléti look to cement their place inside the top four in La Liga.

Los Colchoneros are sitting behind BarcelonaReal Madrid and Sevilla heading into the new year, while they're only one point ahead of Imanol Alguacil's impressive Real Sociedad side.
