"As we've said, we will do our very best to get Wayne there.
"It's in our interests as well as England's to do that. You can't put a deadline on this. We'll send him back for a scan in a few weeks' time. If it's healed, then we've got the progress we want. If it's not, there's nothing we can do. We are in the hands of how Wayne improves. The oxygen chamber arrives this afternoon. There's no conclusive evidence that it does improve injuries, but it won't do any harm. Everything's worth a try at this stage.
"We just have to carry on with the treatment because we are really in the hands of how Wayne improves and we are not going to do anything that will jeopardise the boy.
"If he goes, he needs to be fit because otherwise he may not do himself justice, which would be an even bigger disappointment for England fans.
"A quarter-final of the World Cup is not an easy game.
"I don't know who they are likely to play but most people seem to think it could be Portugal.
"Well, Portugal are not a bad side. They would think they have every chance of getting through to a semi-final.
"We will do our best for Wayne. If we can get him on the plane we will; if not, hopefully he will get the proper recovery before he starts next season."

"We're in the hands of how Wayne improves. Gary Neville ended up having to have his pinned because he hadn't recovered properly. David Beckham I think I made a mistake on, because he ended up joining up with England in Dubai. I think he would have been much fitter if he'd stayed here.
"But he wanted to go to Dubai [though] I don't think he was fit enough to play a World Cup."
