Ryan Giggs, "The main thing you want with a keeper is stability and Edwin has certainly given us that. You don't want to be chopping and changing [with goalkeepers] which we did quite a few times last season.
"No matter which keeper plays you want stability and the same applies to the defence as a whole. Edwin's got that experience and that big-match mentality and hopefully he'll continue to do well for us."
Ryan has also reiterated his determination to fight for his place:
"The manager at a club like this is always going to strengthen. That is good and provides a challenge for the rest of us. But I still believe that when I am playing at my best I am worth my place in the team. I would not have signed a three-year deal if I did not think that was the case."
