Monaco?s billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev is making plans to lead his club back to the top of the European football scene and sees a marquee signing such as Rooney as a statement of intent according to today's Dailystar.
Rooney?s current deal at United expires in 2015 and is worth a staggering ?230,000 a week but the Russian is ready to break the bank to land the 27-year-old.
Sir Alex Ferguson claimed last week that Rooney is staying at Old Trafford even after he was controversially dropped from the starting lineup for the Champions League defeat by Real Madrid.
?He will be here next year, you have my word on that,? said the Scot.
?There is no issue between myself and Wayne Rooney. He understood the reasons (he was left out) completely.?
Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has said the England international would be making a huge mistake if he left the club.
?I should have finished my career here,? he said.
?I had a great opportunity to do that. You make decisions for a reason and for me it was simply because I wanted to play.
?I don?t think Wayne is in the same position. He is 27, so he is definitely not in that position. I was 30, 31, so it was different.
?He has been left out for one game. One game cannot determine your career at a football club or affect it. I don?t look at it as a problem for him.?
