’Takeover fever grips Old Trafford, but so far executives have refused to talk to the media. The board would not even put contact telephone numbers on last Monday’s stock-exchange statement — as if that would discourage the press.
’Sir Roy Gardner, the chairman, has been in Canada for Centrica, the utility. On Tuesday, David Gill, the club’s chief executive, attended a Premier League meeting and at the end of the week took a couple of days off, returning to Old Trafford for yesterday’s international match between England and Wales.’
