SAF:
"You can smell that the players are going out expecting to win.
"They have their confidence back and they're looking forward to every game now and the training sessions have been good all week. There's a long way to go - nine points behind Chelsea is a mammoth task - but maybe things will have changed by New Year's Day.
"Confidence is working like magic for us and I am delighted with the way we have put our game together after the spell which saw us go to pieces in front of goal.
"Teams like Southampton are fighting for every point and that makes it difficult.
"You have to be patient and not frustrated then open them up gradually.
"At half-time I asked for a bit more patience, we kept working away at our passing.
"We got the breakthrough and that opened the game up.
"There were periods in the second half where we played exceptionally well and could have scored more goals."
Wigley:
"In this form, Manchester United can do anything they want to do. They go for the throat and, once we fell behind, there was no way back.
"The only thing I'll have on the long trip home is a lot of thoughts and disappointment.
"Saturday night and Sunday are not the best time in my household at the moment, but come Monday morning it's my job to pick people up. The one thing I have tried to do is to keep my situation out of the debate. I don't want it to affect the players."
