MATCH QUOTES

Ferguson:

"There is great determination and a marvellous team spirit in this side.

"There are 15 games to go and we are in a very good position. We played some good football and it was a period we capitalised on - sometimes you don't do that, but we managed to get a three-goal lead by half-time.

"We did the sensible things well, like keeping possession at the right time. The good thing is we are creating chances and scoring goals.

"We have got Arsenal next week, and with Paul Scholes back it was a chance to give Ryan Giggs a break and give Ji-Sung Park an hour and a bit as he gets more games under his belt."

A word on Scholes:

"Ach, Paul Scholes. He'll be some player when he gets a bit of composure."

More:

"It is good for Carrick and Park as well to get goals.

"We now have quite a few scorers in our ranks, which is pleasing.

"We are just waiting for Gary Neville to come up with one."

On Rooney:

"He perhaps needs a goal just to give him the confidence that all strikers need.

"He hit the crossbar against Villa and had a few other chances.

"The important thing is that he is working hard and is enjoying his football at the moment. But I have no great concerns about Wayne.

"We missed a few chances, but that has been the nature of us this season. The most important thing is that we are creating chances and scoring a good portion of those opportunities. It's not a big issue for us because there are enough players scoring goals for that to balance out.

Carrick on MUTV:

"I had hoped it would have come a bit sooner, but it's nice to score.

"Your first goal is always something you want to get out of the way. It wasn't something that was getting me down, but hopefully I can go on and get a few more now.

"Saying that, once it comes you enjoy it. But the goal was more a bonus for me, I was more pleased that we got another three points. It's another game out of the way and we can look forward to next week now against Arsenal.

A word on Scholes:

"You just have to give him the ball and let him do his thing.

"He is awesome. He has been the best for many a year now and I am learning a lot from playing alongside him.

"I think the thing is that he has been doing it consistently. You can play well in spells, but do it over a period of months like he has just shows the quality he has got. He has great respect off players not just at this club but elsewhere. I am sure he will continue that form for the rest of the season."

O'Neill:

"It is a long, long time without a win now, but I don't think I was ever fooled by our early position and I don't think anyone around the football club was.

"We did fine in terms of getting points and results early on, but they have dried up so we have got to do something about it.

"Manchester United are a very fine side. We have got a lot of work to do, but we have known that for a long time."

A word on Scholes:

"He's playing majestically. And that's because he's a majestic player."
