Scholes:
"I don't know if I will remember by 500th game more because I scored.
"I'm just happy to play and happy we won. It was a big day for us. We needed to beat Liverpool to keep up with Chelsea and thankfully we have managed to do that."
Ferdinand:
"That goal was for my son Lorenz. It's his first time at Old Trafford and maybe he's a good luck charm.
"Maybe he can come every week and I will get my name on the scoresheet a bit more often.
"I don't really think about scoring, I think about trying to keep clean sheets so today was a bonus.
"Liverpool have been playing 4-3-3 but today they played one up front with people off the front man and they have been very difficult to break down and it was the same again. It was a good move for Scholesy's goal and then we consolidated with my goal.
"He's [Scholes] in his car on way home now, he is not bothered about personal accolades, but he showed how he was missed last season,"
Ferguson:
"There has been a growing belief since the beginning of the season; the belief that we can win it.
"We started with the hope, desire and intention to do well and so far the players haven't let anyone down.
"After losing to Arsenal we couldn't afford to lose another big one. The players responded to that and gave an excellent performance. I'm looking for our team to step forward and have a real go this year.
"I would not dismiss Liverpool.
"They have a good run-in and there will be a freshness about them in the second half of the season because of the way Rafa has been ringing the changes.
"But I have to say, I am looking at ourselves at the moment. I want my side to step forward and make sure we have a real go this year."
More:
"We knew we couldn't afford to lose the big one again and the players responded to that. It was an excellent performance.
"I thought Michael Carrick was fantastic, Paul Scholes gave us composure, Ryan Giggs with his experience and the workrate of Darren Fletcher. I thought our midfield was a big influence for us today."
Benitez:
"It is one of my most disappointing days as manager of the club.
"It is a game everyone at the club and the supporters want us to win, especially at Old Trafford."
