Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault.
The Crown Prosecution Service had earlier confirmed that they had made the recommendations for the Manchester United forward to be charged.
Greenwood was arrested back in January and had his bail extended in June, though was re-arrested on Saturday morning after breaking these conditions.
And GMP confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Greenwood has now been charged and will appear at magistrates' court on Monday.
"Greater Manchester Police has charged and remanded a 21-year-old man with controlling and coercive behaviour, attempted rape and Section 47 assault of a woman," a statement read.
"Mason Greenwood, of Bowdon will appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court on Monday 17 October 2022.
"He was arrested in the Trafford area earlier today (Saturday 15 October)."
Janet Potter, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, revealed earlier in a statement: "Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West's complex casework unit authorised the charges following a review of a file of evidence received from Greater Manchester Police."
