Manchester Uniteds Possible XI for the season ahead

Last updated : 09 August 2013 By DSG
Manchester United fans have become increasingly frustrated at their teams lack of transfer activity this summer, offers for Cesc Fabregas have been rejected from Barcelona, will Moyes look for an alternative? Expect transfer dealings to happen during the course of the next few weeks with Wayne Rooney seemingly handing in a request to leave, possibly to Chelsea.

I expect Moyes to go to his old hunting ground, Everton, in his quest for new signings, and here is a look at what could potentially be the Scotsmans best XI for the upcoming season.

GK: David de Gea

The young Spaniard was in the PFA team of the year last season, quashing doubts over his ability to hack it in the Premier League.

Defence:

RB: Rafael

CB: Rio Ferdinand

CB: Nemanja Vidic

LB: Leighton Baines

Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have been Manchester Uniteds best centre defensive parnership over the past few years, but due to age and injurys expect Johnny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all to feature heavily during the course of the season as well. Rafael has firmly estalished himself as Manchester Uniteds first-choice right-back. With doubts over captain Patrice Evras future, perhaps Moyes will raid his old club Everton for England left-back Leighton Baines.

Midfield:

CDM: Michael Carrick

CDM: Maroune Fellaini

RAM: Antonio Valencia

CAM: Shinji Kagawa

LAM: Wilfred Zaha

Maroune Fellaini could well join Manchester United as well from Everton, one of the Belgians key attributes is versatility, he could play behind Robin Van Persie, or alongside workhorse Michael Carrick in midfield.

On the wings lie Antonio Valencia and young Wilfred Zaha, Valencia was out-of-sorts last season, but he has the ability to bounce back and hold down a starting berth this season. Ashley Young and Nani will also be competing for places, so United will have strength in depth out wide.

Wayne Rooneys likely departure could see Shinji Kagawa nail down a starting spot, playing just in behind Robin Van Persie, the Japanese star has skill and technical ability in abundance, and will be a key player for Moye's men.

Forwards:

ST: Robin Van Persie

The Dutchman was prolific last season and ended up the Premier Leagues topgoalscorer, Moyes will be hoping for some of the same this season. Javier Herandez could start alongside Van Persie in some games this season, him and Danny Wellbeck wait in reserve to give the Red Devils plenty of firepower up front.
