Manchester United are reported to have registered an interest in the ?50M rated striker Edison Cavani. Giants Real Madrid and Chelsea are at the forefront of the struggle to attract the 26 year old, with Madrid believed to be his preferred destination. However, United have made a late entry in the race to secure his signature, after they have looked to have missed out on Borrusia Dortmund's Polish wonder Robert Lewandoski.
Many fans have questioned the need to sign yet another striker, with the club already having the services of Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney (although he could be on his way out), Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck at their disposal. United heavily relied on the ageing Carrick in midfield last season and with Paul Scholes finally calling it a day, United have a void to fill in the centre of the pitch.
Barcelona duo Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara have been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, although Fabregas has poured cold water on a potential move, pledging his future to the Spanish Champions in several public interviews. On the other hand, his Spanish counterpart Thiago looks certain to seal a move to United for a fee of ?15M after becoming frustrated with his lack of first team football.
Thiago had a stunning U21 European Championship, scoring a first half hat trick in a 4-2 victory over Italy. United are yet to make any substantial signings in David Moyes first transfer window, but it is believed the Scot is keen to strengthen his squad once he returns from holiday on July 1st.
