Fergie:

The tribute: "It was fantastic. Our fans paid the most fitting tribute they could possibly have done and the club organised it in a special way. Throughout the night the fans were fantastic. I was so mindful of the occasion, I really wanted to win. That’s why I played a strong team, I knew West Brom were going to play a strong team, and I was going to make sure we were going through to the next round."

On the match: "Two of the goals were fantastically well made - Louis Saha’s goal and John O’Shea’s goal – with terrific football. There were some great moments of football from us tonight. Not all the time because West Brom played their part and they had a lot of possession at times. They’re a very experienced side and they have been playing well over the last few weeks. I knew it would be a tough game.

"We know Saha's a fantastic striker. What we hope and pray now is that he stays clear of injuries. What an addition he’ll be to our squad. He’ll play against Everton. He was terrific tonight, I was really pleased."

Robbo:

"It was a fantastic send off.

"You don't expect anything less from Manchester United's fans.

"They are excellent when it comes to former players.

"It was a fitting tribute for George Best the player and George Best the person. He was great.

"It didn't surprise me one little bit that they gave such a wonderful send off to one of the best players the world has ever seen."

And about the football, Robbo said: "We played some good football but our defending was poor and against a team of United's calibre you cannot afford to give two goals away."
