Fergie:
"That was a bad, bad performance and an awful defeat.
"The result of last weekend has been absolutely destroyed. I'm not going to make excuses. We should have been well in front after 30 minutes but we didn't ram home our advantage. I can't accept the number of missed chances. We've let everybody down.
"It is a terrible disappointment, just not good enough.
"We missed an incredible number of chances and it was just not good enough really - I just couldn't tell you why it happens.
"For the quality we've got we should be doing better in these games but it is certainly not an easy place to play, especially when you are one down.
"Portsmouth are a handful up front with their pace and power.
"Harry (Redknapp) has a decent set-up and plenty of teams are going to struggle here.
"We were on top for a long time at the start but if you don't drive home your advantage at places like this and in this atmosphere you are struggling."
Redknapp:
"This was an incredible result.
"We scrapped our way through a 1-0 win over them in April but they were a different side then and we were getting clear of relegation.
"This time they came with a full-strength side, barring Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Alex didn't mess about too much.
"We looked dodgy to begin with. Arjan de Zeeuw has just come back from injury and was all over the place at the start, but we got over that and hung in there.
"I told them at half-time we could win it even though we had lost Diomansy Kamara and Patrik Berger with injuries.
"We've got quality at the front and security at the back and you can achieve anything with those assets.
"Lomana LuaLua probably doesn't even know what 4-4-2 is but when we switched to it he stuck to his position out wide and did a great job.
"I also brought on Ricardo Fuller and our young lad Valery Mezague and they both did a good job.
"United are going to be bitterly disappointed because they must have seen this as a great chance to keep bouncing back after the Arsenal result - but our fans know we can give anybody a game now.
"The fans deserve it because they are terrific but I don't think they can believe the football we are playing and the results we are getting.
"Alex knew it would be tough. He knows a lot about us but he'll be fine and I wouldn't write him off yet for the title.
"He was in here for an hour before the start to have a cup of tea with us although I've missed him now.
"It can all turn. Who would have thought Arsenal would struggle to get a draw at home to Southampton?"

A new Red Issue came out last Sunday and will be available on Wednesday. We know the sellers are ugly, but when approached, they are really quite nice. If you cannot face them or cannot always get to the match then why not take out a subscription. |
