Manchester United have said the club "does not condone violence of any kind" after allegations of assault were made against striker Mason Greenwood.

“We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media," a club spokesperson said after 20-year-old Greenwood was accused of physically harming his ex-girlfriend. "We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

Later on Sunday, United confirmed, "Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice."

The allegations levelled at Greenwood included photographs, video and an audio recording, all of which have now been deleted from Instagram.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they are aware of the allegations, saying in a statement: "Greater Manchester Police is aware of images and videos circulating on social media. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

Nike, who sponsor Greenwood, also responded to the allegations, telling the The Athletic: “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”
