Man Utd close megastore due to anti-Glazer protests

Manchester United opted to close their flagship Old Trafford megastore on Sunday due to protests against the Glazer family's ownership of the club.

The Glazers remain universally derided figures among fans, who planned a protest against them prior to Sunday's season opener against Brighton.

The 1958 supporter group led another demonstration against the club's owners, marching through Salford and Manchester before doing a lap of Old Trafford.

When fans came back round to the megastore, the shutters came down and the shop closed, later reopening once the protestors had moved on.

Co-owner Avram Glazer was spotted in attendance at Old Trafford once Sunday's game kicked off.

Sunday's demonstration was not the first against the Glazers in recent times. Supporters protested against them prior to April's 3-2 win at home to Norwich City, while a mass protest forced a clash with Liverpool towards the end of the 2020/21 season to be postponed after fans broke into Old Trafford.

The 1958 group were also responsible for a planned protest against United CEO Richard Arnold earlier this summer, with the 51-year-old getting wind of the plan and instead taking them to a local pub. Parts of their conversations, including about their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, were leaked online.
