LOOKING AHEAD TO WEDNESDAY

“There is experience about the team now. We lost a goal after 30 seconds in Basel, but we gathered ourselves, we got control of the game towards the end of the half, and that was experience. We didn’t panic and took our time.

"Deportivo have had one or two injuries but you know they're still a good footballing team and hard opponents. I think they'll have a go at us, as they did last year. In fact, some of their best form has been away from home. But we beat them in both matches in the quarter-final and winning away from home in our first match in this group has put us in a good position."

And on our chances at playing at O.T. towards the end of May:

"I really do think the Champions League is wide open this season. There are some fantastic clubs in there, but I don't think there is one team that really stands apart.”

“Deportivo will have a go at us. Their best form this season has been away from home. They beat Bayern Munich and got a result in Milan.”

Depor’s Roy Makaay says:

“The important thing is not to lose. We feel we lost two points in the group by drawing at home against Juventus (2-2, after Deportivo had been 2-0 ahead). If you’ve been two goals in front after 15 minutes, you do feel a little bit down if you don’t go on to win it. We need at least to get a draw in Manchester, and we know it’s going to be difficult.”

Makaay on last year’s quarters:

“In the quarter-final at Riazor, United played what I thought was a really great game,” says Makaay. “That was the one that finished 0-2. It was always going to make it very difficult for us going to Manchester. You look at the scoreline from the return leg, 3-2 to United, and even that wasn’t quite right. We had a lot of luck that night as well. Once they were 3-1 up, I think they thought it was over and they had a bit of rest to prepare for the next game.”
