'PROUD David Beckham has told how son Brooklyn congratulated him on his
penalty against Argentina by saying: "Good goal, Daddy!"
Becks got straight on the phone home after his spotkick had blasted England
to a 1-0 win last Friday.
And three-year-old Brooklyn made the skipper's joy complete by
complimenting him from the other side of the world.
Beaming Becks, 27, said: "That really meant such a lot to me. Victoria and
Brooklyn had watched the game but I think her mum and dad were too
nervous.
"I spoke to Brooklyn after the match and the first thing he said was, 'Good
goal, Daddy!'"
Beckham also revealed that herself asked not to take any penalties: "Before
we left Victoria said, 'Please don't take any penalties'.
"I explained that it was my job and I would definitely take them. She knew that
at some point I might have to.
"But I don't think she realised it would come in the Argentina game. Victoria
and my parents all said, 'God, you've got so much guts doing that after what
happened before'. But maybe that game was my coming of age. We were
under a real onslaught from Argentina and I was aware the other players were
looking at me. That's when I realised how important a captain can be."
"England has been waiting a long time as a nation, and what with the Queen's
Jubilee and Lennox Lewis beating Mike Tyson, none of us will ever forget the
last few days."
