The accepted protocol is for the host club to accept any damage at a semi-final as part and parcel of the rental for the stadium. The damage was so extensive that United are said to be passing on the repair bill to the FA who in turn will be deducting the sum from
Old Trafford sources claim that the repairs will run to about £50,000 but the FA have refused to confirm the figures involved.
"A decision has not been reached yet," a spokesman for the FA told the press.
"Our position that we have maintained is that the cost for the damage to Old Trafford will come out of the gate receipts."
