Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has said he felt 'emotional' after fans chanted his name during their 2-0 win against Tottenham on Wednesday night.
Manager Erik ten Hag hailed the performance as United's best so far this season, with goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes securing the win for the dominant Red Devils.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of their trip to Chelsea on Saturday, Martinez insisted he could not take all the credit for keeping Spurs' attack quiet.
"I think [it was] not only me, but all the players, we did a fantastic job," the Argentine said. "We deserved [the win] because we trained really hard to get this."
Another strong night for Martinez ended with the home fans signing his name, and he revealed how grateful he felt for the show of affection.
"Last night, it was very emotional for me to receive that love from the fans," he added.
"I'm really happy because I came from nothing. To come here [to United], one of the best clubs in the world. It’s very special."
Martinez has now kept three clean sheets in a row at the heart of United's defence, but will be further tested when they travel to Stamford Bridge.
Graham Potter remains unbeaten as Chelsea boss, though the Blues were held to a 0-0 draw at Brentford on Wednesday.
