It looks like the Turkish journo's have taken a leaf out of their British peers book by allegedly fabricating quotes to link a Turkish player with United. Real Sociedad are denying everything.
Yesterday Real Sociedad president Jose Luis Astiazaran denied claims that Manchester United had made a 'serious offer' for Turkish ace Nihat Kahveci.
Reports in the Turkish press on Tuesday linked the striker with a move to Old Trafford, but the Basque club say it isn't so.
LIES, LIES, IT'S ALL LIES
"The president has not spoken to any Spanish or Turkish journalist. It is not true that we have received an offer from Manchester United for Nihat," Real Sociedad spokesman Andoni Iraola said.
The Turkish press reported that Astiazaran had said:
"There are some offers for Nihat,"
"But Manchester United's offer is the most serious."
"If Nihat wants to play for Manchester United, this transfer can become fact."
A price of around £10 million had been mentioned.
United's supposed interest in Nihat apparently started when Sir Alex Ferguson's brother Martin travelled to Santander to watch the Primera Liga game between Racing and Real Sociedad on March 15.
