"When Rupert Murdoch and Sky tried to buy Manchester United
that was stopped by the government. What we have to do, the
directors and employees, is to continue to work as we are
and deliver what we are aiming to deliver. If we do that we
will continue to be an independent company.
"Someone could come in and make a bid for us and we have to
respond as we get the facts and figures behind that bid. We
don't need a sugar daddy and we don't particularly want a
sugar daddy.
"We've got the strength and financial wherewithal to make
sure we can continue to operate at the top levels of both
English football and also European football."
Sorry who stopped that deal? The Government? Yeah the fans
campaign had nothing to do with it of course. And if a
takeover is really to be avoided who will be there to make
sure it doesn’t happen? The Government? Or IMUSA and
Shareholders United? If you aren’t already a member, join
now before it is too late.

Gill also spoke in glowing terms of a potential ‘sugar
daddy’ – American Malcolm Glazier:
"I had a good meeting with him and two of his sons," he
said. "It was very cordial and he seems a sensible man, who
knows something about soccer as they call it.
"If you look at where they are coming from, he bought Tampa
Bay in 1995 and turned a team of losers into a team that won
the Super Bowl this year.
"They do have a bit of knowledge about sport and understand
that if you don't have success on the pitch your investment
is not worth a great deal."
