‘Rooney and Coleen McCloughlin, his fiancée, were invited out to Spain yesterday by David and Victoria Beckham. They were due to watch Madrid’s game against Real Mallorca in Beckham’s private box in the Bernabéu before heading out to dinner as a happy quartet.
The evening out is understood to have been initiated by Beckham and follows the tempestuous night in Belfast when England lost 1-0 to Northern Ireland. In danger of being sent off, Rooney responded to his captain’s instructions to calm down with a torrent of abuse. The United striker was alleged to have continued his foul-mouthed rant in the dressing-room at half-time, supposedly calling Beckham a “flash b******”.
The first moves towards reconciliation were believed to have been made by Rooney in an apologetic phone call to Beckham a day or so later and yesterday’s social gathering.’
