"It wasn't´something I´d planned. Perhaps if I´d seen out my contract at United but even after twelve and a half years it just doesn´t sit comfortably with me.
It´s hard to explain but it just doesn´t. United and Celtic have been encouraging me so it looks like it´s going ahead.
"It will be nice to go back in terms of never having had a chance to say good by to the fans.
"Not necessarily going back and seeing the manager and the staff and the players because you are bound to see them over the years.
"But in terms of playing Old Trafford and saying goodbye properly...perhaps.
"Nothing´s been fully agreed and sorted out but there will be a charitable benefit to having it - lots of people in Glasgow, and Manchester and Cork and Dublin I imagine will benefit.
"But I won´t be turning it into a big publicity stunt. If there is gonna be a game it will be a game and that´s it. There won´t be dinners and golf days because it´s my opinion that some people go over the score on that kind of thing
"I´m not uncomfortable about they way I left man Unitd. That was very straightforward with me and the manager. People are looking for a different angle on it but we had both come to the end. It´s like when you are in a relationship with a girl and you just know when it is at the end. And that´s what it was, it was over. Time to move on.
"I don´t like the attention side of it. I´ve played in testimonials for players who deserved it and I thought they were great. I´ve played for United against Celtic before and it´s been a good occasion but for me personally hopefully it´ll turn out allright on the night. It just doesn´t sit right with me.
"Some of the Celtic lads have been encouraging me to do it because they want to go play at Old Trafford.
"I think it might be nice. I know there have been players criticised over the years but if unitd or celtic fans want to go to the game then well and good. If they don´t then I say don´t bother. We´ll see what happens."
