He is quoted in the Mirror as saying:
"Every year players come and go at United. You have to
accept that as a player here, you are always going to be
pushed for your place. In that sense this year's no
different to any other. Honestly, it's always good when new
players come in, because every player needs competition, no
matter who they are.
"That's part of the challenge of playing for this club. As
far as I'm concerned, I'm confident I can keep my place in
the side as long as I can stay fit. That's my personal
challenge. I'm sure the other midfielders who have been here
a long time are also thinking that way. Players may come in,
but the ones already here are determined to keep their
place."
"I don't want to look too far ahead, but I feel great at the
moment. I had an excellent break over the summer and have
come back mentally and physically stronger for it. When you
have six or seven weeks off, it can be too long. But I did a
few nice things with the family and feel fine. I have two
years left on my contract and I hope to see them out."
