Juventus are said to have rejected the chance to sign Edinson Cavani this summer after selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United.
In what was arguably the biggest move of the summer transfer window, Ronaldo made a shock return to Old Trafford for an initial £12.85m - which could rise to a potential £19.7m transfer fee in bonuses and add-ons - leaving Juve without a premier marksman in the squad (sorry Alvaro Morata).
La Vecchia Signora ended up settling for the two-year loan signing of Moise Kean from Everton on deadline day, but they could also have added Cavani.
According to Calciomercato, Man Utd offered Juventus the chance to sign after Ronaldo's move to Old Trafford had been finalised - with the Serie A giants turning the offer down due to Cavani's wages.
Juve being put off any move for Cavani due his £250,000-per-week wage packet does scan. The club had been financially hamstrung by Ronaldo's huge wage packet for a number of years, and getting said wages off the books was a deciding factor in the club allowing the player to leave this summer.
La Vecchia Signora have also made a conscious effort in the last two years to sign younger players, with the average of new signings being 23 years old in 2020 and just 20 years old this summer (via Il Bianconero), so signing a 34-year-old also wouldn't have fit into this new transfer policy.
Cavani endeared himself to the Man Utd faithful and Ronaldo this week by handing his number seven shirt over to the club's returning hero - gesture which Ronaldo thanked the Uruguayan forward for.
"I wasn't sure if it would be possible to have the no.7 shirt again," Ronaldo said. "So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi [Cavani] for this incredible gesture."
Cavani will wear the number 21 jersey this season after handing the number seven to Ronaldo.
