This from The Independent:
Terry Venables was yesterday interviewed by the Leeds United chairman Peter Ridsdale for the job left vacant by David O'Leary's dismissal.
Although Celtic's Martin O'Neill and the Republic of Ireland manager, Mick McCarthy, are still the favourites to succeed O'Leary, Venables' interest in taking over at Elland Road is genuine. Since resigning as the England coach in the wake of Euro 96, Venables has devoted most of his time to television, interspersed with coaching Australia and occasional eclectic forays back into club football.
As a former chairman and chief executive, Venables would be well aware of the pressures of a plc needing to make savings and could probably be counted on to accept the financial realities at Elland Road better than O'Neill.
