Jones was one of Ferguson's signings in 2011 when he arrived from Blackburn and was seen at the time as one of the countries highly rated defenders.
So much so that Jones has broken into the England senior team and many, including Fergie, believe that Jones is much more quick thinking and faster on his feet than the aging Chelsea man.
And the 20 year old put in another good display in the 4-1 win over Fulham at Old Trafford yesterday.
Ferguson told reporters: "Jones has got more in his locker than John Terry.
"Terry has got the experience and has become a fantastic central figure at Chelsea, but as a young player, John would be the first to admit he didn't have the pace of Phil Jones.
"Phil is a versatile boy, he can play anywhere. He's quick, two-footed, reads games well and is competitive. He's doing very well."
