Jesse Marsch has said that former Red Bull colleague and Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick contacted him after he was appointed Marcelo Bielsa's successor at Leeds this week.
90min were first to reveal that Leeds had decided to give Bielsa his marching orders following a run of six games without a win, culminating in an abysmal 4-0 loss at home to Tottenham. The Whites are now just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Leeds moved swiftly to appoint American tactician Marsch, who has enjoyed success with New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg, with his most recent job coming with RB Leipzig. After a mere 21 games in charge of Die Roten Bullen, Marsch was sacked by the Bundesliga side in December 2021.
Ahead of his first game as Leeds manager - a trip to Leicester on Saturday lunchtime - Marsch was asked who has influenced him in his career, namedropping Man Utd's Rangnick after working together in the Red Bull system.
"My father’s balance between hard work and enjoying life is the best I have seen. He worked in a tractor factory for 32 years. He was also an incredible hard worker. Built houses," Marsch said.
"My parents got married very young because of me. They fought for everything in life to achieve and succeed. My work-life balance has always been pretty good.
"Rangnick introduced complex football tactics and ideas to me in a way that ignited my passion for being a top manager.
"I’m thankful we are not playing them [Man Utd] down the stretch. He sent me a note and that was great. A good luck note."
