IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK

Carlos Queiroz onm his year in Madrid, from the MEN:

“It was a fantastic year for me. It was a great season from a professional point of view. Unfortunately the final results did not reach what we'd expect, but it was still great. I think during the eight months of the campaign at Real Madrid we created some magic and entertainment. It was very good for me.

"You always learn, especially when you have an open mind. Sometimes you learn what to do and sometimes what you should not do.

"If you don't reach what you expect from the achievements point of view that doesn't mean the process and the challenge you take was not fantastic.

"Just because you didn't win a title doesn't mean that everything you did in the season was not fantastic.

"If you do not win a championship it doesn't mean that you are moving in the wrong direction. Because United didn't win the title last season doesn't mean they are going in the wrong direction.

"It can also be the case that sometimes when you win a title it doesn't mean you are going in the right direction. Sometimes after achieving big things you can't reach that same level again.

"I know that as soon as the season starts we will be ready to fight again for the big trophies. That is the challenge. I have no doubts United can get back to what they were. We are moving forward to big things this season.

"I want to be a member of the staff that helps make United fans the happiest fans in the world again. We believe with the crew we have on board here at Manchester United we can make that happen.

"I don't regret leaving United originally and going to Madrid. When I make a decision I make it because I believe it is the right one at that moment.

"But this return and the opportunity to be here again means a lot to me. I feel very proud to come back. It is a great honour. I left for one reason and I believe everyone understands why I left.

"Coming back for me is special. It has a special meaning because I realise that from a professional point of view people must have been happy with me. They must have appreciated and valued my work in the first year."
