Kevin Kilbane was struck by a six-inch knife and Irish
players were hit by missiles during their Euro 2004 clash in
Georgia.
Kilbane said: "It was a six-inch pen-knife and it was open.
It hit me on the arm and I didn't realise what it was until
I picked it up. When it fell on the floor it was open. I
couldn't believe it really and I have never experienced
anything like it before.
"There were other things thrown as well, a ball-bearing hit
Gary Breen and one went close to John O'Shea. You expect an
intimidating atmosphere but that was serious-thank God it
wasn't more serious."
Football Association of Ireland president Milo Corcoran
said: "It was dangerous and very worrying. We have never
seen a knife thrown at one of our players before. The
referee handed it over to the UEFA delegate and they will
take action."
