INJURY UPDATE

Manchester United will be without midfielder Nicky Butt for tonight's Champions League clash with Olympiakos.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the club's medical staff have been unable to pinpoint the exact problem with Butt's ankle thus making him almost certain to miss Saturday's game against struggling Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

Its not all doom and gloom though as Fergie has revealed:

'It's possible both Ruud and Rio could be fit for Saturday,' said Ferguson. 'At the very worst it will be Southampton the following week and the same is true for Nicky. They just need a bit of time although we are still assessing what the cause of Nicky's injury is.'

Van Nistelrooy spoke about his injury on MUTV: 'Obviously I want to play as soon as I can but I spoke to the doctor, the medical staff and the manager and they all say they want me fit for the rest of the season.

'They do not want 90 per cent but 100 per cent and I think that is a good point. I'm doing my work in the gym and hope to build it up and soon go outside and run. Then I will build it up to team training and hopefully I will be able to play in the next game.'
