I KNOW WHAT I WANT AND I WANT IT NOW

"In Ruud, we are dealing with a great professional and during all my life, I have never seen a great professional who is comfortable when he is not starting a game," said Queiroz.

"The great players and great champions all want to play and perform and serve their clubs. I see nothing wrong with that. It is what all players at Manchester United should be doing.

"When you look at our squad, with players like Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kieran Richardson, there is no doubt we have a great future.

"But our obligation at the moment is to make a fantastic present.

"This great club cannot rely on concepts about the future. At this Manchester United, the main priority is the present not the future.

"I do not mind accepting responsibility and I do not mind accepting criticism when it is positive.

"If you are not prepared to do that, you are not prepared to be in this position."

"The injuries have been difficult.

"You have a pool of players, some of whom are very important, as Henry is to Arsenal, Shevchenko to Milan, as Makelele and Drogba are to Chelsea.

"When you lose those key players you cannot suddenly wave a magic wand and solve the problem.

"First, the transfer window is closed, then when you go to the market in January, there are no players who can operate at the level you want.

"But there is no point adopting a cry-baby attitude about it. That doesn't solve anything.

"All you can do is keep going and work smart. That is what we have done.

"When you think about the expectations of a great club like Manchester United, we are not happy.

"We want more, the fans want more and we think we can do more.

"But you have to look at the situation realistically. We started the season with 24 players, yet for six or seven games, we only had 12 or 13 to choose from.

"There is nothing wrong with the size of our squad but you cannot control injuries and we have lost important players like Paul Scholes, Gabriel Heinze, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville for long periods.

"This club exists to win championships and other trophies. We would like to have done better but when you take everything into consideration, if we can get a minimum 28 points from our remaining 11 games we will still have had a good season."

"We didn't have to wait for Chelsea to play Barcelona to realise they are not invincible because we have played them once already and beaten them

"But watching Chelsea over the last four or five games it seems other teams are beginning to think they can do something against them. Teams are starting to find a way of creating problems for them."
